Need to read it to understand ICC World Cup History 2023

The ICC Cricket World Cup 23 is the upcoming edition of the Cricket World Cup, a quadrennial One Day International (ODI) cricket tournament contested by men's national teams and organised by the International Cricket Council (ICC). It is scheduled to be hosted by India from 5 October to 19 November 2023³.

The tournament will feature **ten teams** that will compete for the coveted trophy. The tournament will follow a similar format to the 2019 edition in England and Wales, with a **round-robin stage** followed by the **knockouts**¹. The top four teams at the end of the round-robin stage will qualify for the semi-finals, and the winners of the two subsequent semi-finals will contest in the final, where the champion will be crowned¹.

The **Narendra Modi Stadium** in Ahmedabad will host the tournament opener and the final, while the other nine venues are Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamsala, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai and Pune². Ahmedabad will also host matches between traditional rivals India and Pakistan (15 October) and Australia and England (4 November)².

Eight teams have qualified for the 46-day event through the **Cricket World Cup Super League 2020-23**, while the final two spots will be taken by the finalists of the **ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier** taking place in Zimbabwe¹⁴.

England are the defending champions heading into the tournament, having won the trophy on home soil in 2019 after defeating New Zealand in a thrilling final at Lord’s. Australia are the most successful team in the history of the Cricket World Cup, having won the tournament a record five times. West Indies and India have won the tournament twice, while England, Pakistan and Sri Lanka have each lifted the trophy once³.
